Polish, Polish, Polish
Its that time, time to make everything look its best while making the game run as smooth as it can. This means fixing everything from lighting problems to creating LoDs for all of the foliage. Before I got my hands on the lighting the shadows were broken on most of the objects in the scene. This was due to there being no reflections in the scene, if nothing has reflections then there is no light being bounced around in the scene and you end up with flat black shadows. But no need to fear beard man is here! I swooped in like a falcon, clicked my mouse, stroked my keyboard, whispered sweet nothings to my PC tower, and we start to get something that looks like what you see below. Some before and after shots and a glamour shot of the desert town, that looks pretty sexy if I do say so myself.
Work on the Main Menu is Under Way
So working in VR is much different than working on a normal game, we can’t just put a normal game menu into the game with buttons you can click on. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. It forces us to be more creative with the game menus by making them more organic to the actual game. This makes it more fun, we get to create an entire level with back story and atmosphere just for the menus. What makes this bad is it takes more time to develop, creating a complex ui that is organic to the the game takes more time than a normal games menu. The menu level is set in a tavern/inn late at night filled with strangers and drifters that have crazy tall tales to tell to anyone who will listen! But until this is further along I can’t tell you much more about it. Keep an eye out for more info and check out our stream, I will be streaming the creation of the tavern as much as I can!
Creating Quick Levels of Detail in Maya
I will be streaming my self modeling in Maya and creating textures inside of Substance Designer. I look forward to interacting with the community and anyone interested in game art! You can follow us here, https://www.twitch.tv/rillybossstudios.
To everyone the best, and much BACON!
